PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

SPACE POLICY

Aims and Objectives

The aim of this Professional Development Programme (PDP) is to present to participants, with various academic and professional backgrounds, an overview of the key elements of space policies of major space-faring nations and some other countries that are planning for the development and use of space technologies for peaceful purposes.

During the course a comparative approach will be followed; i.e. the space policies of various nations will be described and compared with a view to determine/identify the optimum option(s) for the client. The objective is to enable participants to re-fresh and re-enforce their current understandings of space policies, thereby facilitating their existing work activities relating to space activities, as well as to help them learn the methodologies, approaches and skills for formulating pertinent space policies.

It is suggested the course format should be informal, where questions to the presenter are encouraged throughout the modules. This would enable participants to obtain immediate clarifications, or further detailed explanations of the topic at hand.

At the end of each day, time has been set aside for additional interactive questions and answers, to enable further clarifications of specific topics covered during the day. This has been created to ensure all the relevant topics have been covered, to the level of detail desired by the participants.

During the last day an already prepared draft space policy will be discussed thoroughly and finalised, with the lead of the presenter and active input from participants. This exercise is intended to provide ‘practical training’ in the formulation of space policy by a group of various stakeholders representing numerous fields and interests.
