Earth observation satellites (turn-key solutions)
Prior to seeking a supplier, an appropriate feasibility or requirement study should be conducted. Our company has experience in conducting in-depth studies to determine if a nation actually requires a satellite and on one occasion, our conclusion deterred a client from making a USD 300 million mistake. Some organisations have in-house expertise to conduct a feasibility study whereas a number of potential clients expressed interest in our services to conduct an independent feasibility and requirement study on their behalf. This study results will determine if the project is financially and commercially viable and if so, will lead to the definition of the satellite's specification and only then will we be in a position to seek the most appropriate supplier.
Satellite turn-key services will include the procurement of the satellite, launch vehicle as well as the ground station plus operational training. However, as part of our service to supply a comprehensive programmatic solution, we also appoint an appropriate space insurance broker to ensure that the client's investment is protected from loss during the launch campaign as well as in-space operation during the design life of the satellite.
Earth observation satellite turn-key solutions can range from ~USD 10 million for a 120kg, 10m resolution micro-satellite to USD 260 million for a 1100kg, 1m resolution SAR satellite. Should the client require project financing, then this too can be arranged.
